5 Reasons Why Self-Reflection is Important

READ THE JOURNAL

As we welcome the new decade, it's also equally important to take some time and analyze all the things we had done in the previous years. This step is taken as we try to progress in our livelihood and not repeating the same things over and over again, in order to learn, reorganize our habits, and correctly plan ahead for the future. Therefore, on this week's journal, we will be discussing the importance of self-reflection to improve quality of life and rediscover your life goals.

1. As a learning curve

Often times in life, we are only busy with activities that we have no time to spend to think and reflect back on the things we do. Especially on the high-paced society nowadays, with all the comfort of technology and connectivity, people gradually become desensitized to the habit of thinking deeper through issues and just taking things lightly.

However, taking some time to pause and think about your life and the things you have done actually serve some important purpose, such as learning from your mistakes and treat them as a valuable experience. When you make this self-reflection habit a routine, you can then always think through issues before doing them, making you a wiser person and always in tune with your surroundings.

2. As a chance to organize your thoughts

The habit of self-reflection can also help you sort out your feelings and process your thoughts. This is especially important for women as intuitive beings. When feelings or thoughts are only floating in your head, it can actually frustrate you more and blur out your judgement. Therefore, taking actions to these thoughts is needed to keep your clarity. Try writing on a journal as an outlet to pour out thoughts and feelings to help you find a solution to your life problems.

3. As a medium to challenge yourself

When we think we already know the things we know, more often that not we can start feeling stuck, bored and tired of living. Therefore, it is always important to constantly challenge yourself to do and discover new things. For example, go travel someplace new, try to pick up new languages, or do a new workout routine that you've been wanting to try. Maybe it can also be simpler, like trying new dishes to eat, or finding new routes or transport options to go to your office. By doing these things regularly, not only you're going to be excited by the various possibilities it can provide you, but also gives you more reasons to enjoy life.

4.  Helps you redefine your life goals

In the long run, self-reflection can also help you focus on the important things that lead you to your life goals. On this day and age, especially with the rise of technology, we are constantly sidetracked by doing things that actually are of zero importance, but we are doing it anyway simply because everyone else is doing it, or we thought we have nothing better to do. If you've unconsciously done this, it might be a sign to step back and reflect on yourself, on the things you should be focusing on doing to reach your goals, whether it is a career or personal goal.

5. As a guide to track your progress

Finally, self-reflection also allows us to look back and see where we’ve come from, as well as a guiding block to lead ourselves to our ultimate goal. Therefore, set aside some time on your day and dedicate it to write a journal about your day or week. As the time progresses, you can then compare yourself in weeks, months, or years later to see where you're at, and whether you make any progress towards your goals. This way, you can healthily focus on yourself and not constantly comparing your achievements to the people around you, as we are all developing in a different pace and going through different circumstances in life.
