5 Ways to Keep Skin Moisturized From The Inside

READ THE JOURNAL

Skin is your body's largest organ. It is very important to keep it healthy, and one of the factors is by keeping it hydrated and moisturized. Therefore, the easiest thing to start taking care of your skin, aside from taking care of it externally, is to pay more attention to what you eat and drink. Only then, you can help rebuild your skin’s moisture levels. On this week's journal, we will be explaining a few habits you can do to keep skin moisturized from the inside out. Read on!

1. Consume omega-3 foods

Food rich in omega-3 is very crucial for skin health as they play a major role in locking in moisture into your skin, as well as and prevents it from drying and flaking. As a crucial part of your skin’s lipid content, Omega-3 seals on top of your skin and keeps the moisture in and irritants out. Therefore, increasing your omega-3 intake helps strengthen that seal and reduce the loss of water. Omega-3 also seeps through the membranes of your skin cells, affecting their properties and result in a soft skin with a smooth and supple appearance. However, these essential fatty acids cannot be made by the body, so we need to obtain them through diet, like from walnuts, flaxseed, as well as salmon and sardines.

2. Consume fats

A lot of people actually avoid fats in order to live healthy. However, you need fat to moisturize the skin from the inside. A low-fat diet actually deprives the skin of much needed nutrition. Therefore, it's essential to incorporate healthy fats in your diet, like avocados, salmon, nuts, seeds, and olive oil in order to nourish your skin cells and boost hydration from the inside out.

3. Cut down on sugar consumption

A diet high in sugar is definitely not recommended for skin health, as it may trigger skin conditions like acne and rosacea. This is caused by imbalance in insulin levels following intake of sugar which may increase activity in oil glands and lead to pimple formation. Moreover, you can develop insulin resistance which can lead to premature skin aging, wrinkles, and excess hair growth. Excess sugar can also disrupt and negatively affects collagen and elastin structure over time, making your skin dry and looking less firm.

4. Ensure enough hydration

It can't be stressed enough how important water is for your holistic health. Drinking enough water, at least 8 glasses per day, can also help boost your skin health. Keep water in a glass or tumbler and put it close to you in your workspace so you can rehydrate frequently all day.

You can also increase your water intake through eating foods with high water content, such as watermelon, cucumber slices, apple, pear, melon, leafy greens, fresh herbs, squash, among other fruits and vegetables. Be reminded that the best time to eat fruits is on an empty stomach for best absorption of nutrients.

5. Avoid too much of caffeine and alcohol consumption

Limiting your caffeine and alcohol intake is crucial to maintain skin moisture. Consuming too much caffeine or alcohol tends to draw the water out of your body and depletes the skin’s moisture levels. You can switch your usual coffee intake with herbal teas. Power-packed with the restorative benefits of plants and adaptogens, herbal teas help to replenish hydration, plus provide several other benefits for the body and mind. You can also incorporate our Relief Sari powder varieties in your favorite beverages in order to maintain your health in a more convenient way.
