How Moringa May Help Boost Your Immune System


As the first line of defense against viral and bacterial infection, the immune system plays a highly crucial role in protecting your health. Being a defense mechanism against toxins, bacteria and parasites, weak immunity needs to be handled seriously to keep the risk of contracting serious diseases and chronic infections at bay. One way to maintain our immunity is by eating a healthy diet, like consuming food with high vitamin and mineral content. On this week's journal, we will be explaining the role of moringa, being touted as a superfood, and its benefits to aid our immunity. Read on!

1. Rich in vitamins and minerals

Without proper nutrition, the body won't be able to function as it should be, including protecting us from awaiting attack of virus or bacteria. It's no wondeer moringa is dubbed as a superfood, as it is packed with nutrients that are essential to maintain health, including improving immunity. Rich in vitamin A, B-complex, and C, moringa is also rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. 

Vitamin C, for example, is beneficial to support immunity by increasing antibody formation. While minerals like zinc help wound healing and regulate the functioning of the immune system. It's surprising that the amount of zinc found in moringa are twice as much as found in beans and seeds.

Another major benefit that moringa offers is that it's also able to reduce chronic fatigue. One factor may be that moringa contains high levels of iron and vitamin A, which are both great for boosting energy throughout the day.

2. Rich in antioxidant

Useful for getting rid of free radicals inside your system, antioxidant is an important nutrient that is also good for preventing cell damage caused by oxidation, which can also hinder illnesses. Antioxidants help to neutralize the deeper impact of free radicals, which may cause cancer and other degenerative diseases. 

A healthy diet rich in antioxidants is essential for keeping our immune system strong, as well as helping to increase the white blood cell count, which is important as they are critical for fighting off infections. Moringa is rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene and quercetin, which are all antioxidants. Therefore, consuming food that is high in antioxidant is useful to maintain your overall health.

3. Good source of protein

In the role of maintaining health, protein is needed to help replace cells, build muscles, maintain bodily tissues, as well as producing various enzymes and hormones. The immune system is also in need of proteins, especially the strains that make up protein which are called amino acids.

Moringa is rich in amino acids; 18 types of them, 8 of which are essential amino acids. That is why moringa's protein content can be compared to red meat. Therefore for vegans, moringa can be considered an excellent source of protein.
